Intracytoplasmic sperm injection – ICSI
ICSI is a special form of in vitro fertilization that is always used when there are significant restrictions in the quantity, shape, and motility of the sperm cells. A single sperm cell is injected into a mature egg cell under a microscope in our embryology laboratory. How many egg cells have been fertilized is then evaluated on the following day. All fertilized egg cells are cultivated in a special nutrient solution in an incubator, and an embryo is painlessly transferred to the uterus (embryo transfer) after three to five days. If implantation is successful, you will be able to celebrate a positive pregnancy test 14 days later.
In special cases (e.g. azoospermia – the complete absence of sperm cells in the ejaculate), it is necessary to extract the sperm cells directly from the testes tissue via TESE in order to carry out the ICSI.
